Dr. Robert McBeath is the President of Optum Health Collaborative Care Nevada and is accountable for all of Optum’s Nevada clinical operations including the state’s largest multispecialty medical group practice, Southwest Medical Associates, employing more than 300 physicians and midlevel providers along with its affiliated companies; Family Home Health Services, Family Home Hospice, Total Home Care, Inc. and Optum Medical Management Services.
Prior to joining Optum Health, Dr. McBeath founded Urology Specialists of Nevada in 1996 and guided its growth from a single physician entity to currently 12 physicians and midlevel providers. He created a vertically integrated urologic cancer treatment center which includes state of the art robotically assisted cancer surgery program combined with a full service radiation oncology division. Additionally, he developed, managed and scaled several aligned healthcare businesses including Lithocare, LLC a community wide lithotripter services company and Specialty Surgery Center, a large free standing multispecialty surgery center.
Dr. McBeath has served in multiple leadership positions including Chief of Urology for both Mountain View and Summerlin Hospitals and Chief of Surgery for Summerlin Hospital. He was elected and served as Chairman, Nevada Medical Liability Physicians Task Force which successfully passed malpractice reform legislation in the 2001 special session of the Nevada State Legislature. He served as Commissioner, Nevada Health Education, Research and Training Commission appointed in 2005 by Governor Guinn and recently completed a 2 year appointment by the Clark County Commission to the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada’s Hospital Advisory Board, our community’s safety net County hospital. He remains a Member of American Urologic Association’s Legislative Affairs Committee and is a past Member of UHC National Physician Advisory Committee.
Currently, he holds a teaching appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery & Gynecology, University of Nevada School of Medicine and is a member of the Community Advisory Board for the new UNLV School of Medicine. He was recently appointed to the Board for Project 150, an important community charity providing multiple support services to homeless and disadvantaged high school students in Las Vegas and Reno Nevada.
Dr. McBeath obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Nevada School of Medicine and completed his urologic residency program at the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center.
